Tiffin-Seneca Public Library seeks to offer patrons access to a computing environment that is conducive to public use and operates in a manner that complies with Federal, State, and Local law.
Prohibited Uses
Patrons may not use the Library’s network, computers, tablets, or hotspots for any illegal purpose, or to display or disseminate graphics or materials which may reasonably be construed as obscene, pornographic, or harmful to minors (as defined in the Ohio Revised Code 2907.01). Further, patrons may not use this equipment to:
Misrepresent themselves as another person.
Attempt to modify or gain access to files, passwords, or data belonging to others.
Seek unauthorized access to any computer system.
Damage or alter software components of any network or database.
Upload information to a library computer’s hard drive.
Modify any library settings, screens, or programs.
Content Filtering
In compliance with the Children’s Internet Protection Act, the Library filters all public Internet access. Any patron 18 years or older may elect to disable the filter for unrestricted access for any lawful purpose that does not constitute a Prohibited Use under this policy. No filter functions perfectly. Parents and guardians are responsible for supervising their children’s Internet access at the Library.
Access Management
Computer use is on a first-come, first-served basis. The Library utilizes computer access management software. Patrons must have a library card or guest pass to use the Library’s public computers. Library cards may not be shared with friends or family members. Parental or guardian consent must be on file for children under age 18 to access the Internet through the Library’s public computers. Children 8 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian while using the Internet.
Printing
The Library reserves the right to charge for printing. Charges will apply even if patrons supply their own paper.
Storage
Users may bring their own data storage devices and media. The Library is not responsible for preserving patrons’ data; damage to a patron’s storage device; or any liability that may arise from the use of the Library’s computers. Documents saved to Library computers’ hard drive are erased regularly.
Staff Assistance
Library staff may assist patrons with the use of library technology as time and ability permit.
Misuse
Misuse of the Library’s network, computers, tablets, or hotspots may result in the loss of access to these technologies or to the loss of library privileges altogether. In cases of misuse, Library staff may end a user’s computing session at any time and without warning.
Use At Your Own Risk
The use of the Library’s network, computers, tablets, or hotspots is at the sole risk of the user.
